Hidden at the skirts of a great snow-capped mountain, we encounter this breath-taking, crystal clear lake called Humantay, one of the most important side destinations in the region of Cusco.
This natural attraction is located in the town of Soraypampa, formerly only visited by those who ventured to make the trek to the snow-capped mountain of Salkantay.
Nowadays, the Humantay Lake has become one of the most visited places by travelers, nationals and foreigners. It will only take one day to visit it, the walk is steep but not very long, so it’s reachable for mostly everyone.
If you enjoy beautiful landscapes, a little hiking and a beautiful turquoise lake, then this side trip is for you!!!
Very early in the morning the transportation will pick us up from the hotel and drive towards the Humantay Lake, known for its clear water and imposing views of the near snow-capped mountains.
After approximately 2 hours, the ride will stop for breakfast in the town of Mollepata and then continue to the final destination. We will be able to enjoy the landscapes and ravines for another hour until we reach the town of Soraypampa, the starting point of the hike.
The ascent to the lake is around 2 hours and we will be able to witness the clear water of the lake and the impressive views of the mountain on top. There will be time to enjoy the wonderful views, take pictures and breathe the purest air of all.
In this place, we will participate in a demonstration of the use of the coca leaf and a small offering to our Apus (Mountain Gods) that allowed us to arrive.
The descent to Soraypampa will take around 1h30, and we will take the transportation back to Cusco, with a stop in Mollepata for lunch.
Arrival to Cusco and end of services to continue with other destinations or side trips.
Remember that travelers who make the trip to Humantay Lake must be in a good physical condition and adapted to the high altitude.
