IMPROVED RURAL HOUSING PROJECT

Andean Cultures developed this plan in conjunction with the Machupicchu Cultural Patronage and the Andean communities. It consists of welcoming tourists into their homes and be able to share the tradition and culture of each one of them, the main purpose of this project is to benefit the local inhabitants directly.

Since 2004, Andean Cultures travel agency developed this plan in conjunction with the Machupicchu Cultural Patronage and the Andean communities. It consists of welcoming tourists into their homes and be able to share the tradition and culture of each one of them, either in the Sacred Valley of Cusco or at the shores of the Titicaca Lake. In order to offer a simple but quality service, a serious commitment had to be made with the inhabitants, but with constant effort and communication, it has become a very strong connection that allows us to develop a type of tourism rooted in the cultural and natural values of these regions. At the same time, the Andean inhabitants will be able to constantly improve their living conditions, thanks to the benefits provided by tourism. We would also like to get in touch with other NGOs capable of sending volunteers to help with the renovation of other houses and make them viable for other projects of this type or to help with their daily activities: agriculture and education for young people. In the same way, it would be interesting to have resources in microcredit organizations for the commitment of construction materials.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The Machupicchu Cultural Patronage wishes today to be able to direct specific circuits with a vision towards rural community tourism, adapted to all types of people and economies, individually or in groups of people, through the path of volunteering. This responds to the needs formulated by the communities that look for the season to be full and that the tourists stay a little longer in their homes. On this context, we have to wait for the interest of numerous volunteers to work with the communities and the growth of tourism demand. This will certainly allow communities to improve their quality of life through this complementary activity and carry out their traditional activities that make up a large part of their identity (agriculture, herding, crafts and the customs of the inhabitants).

FOR WHOM IT IS

For four years, these accommodations have received tourists who come from alternative trekking circuits. Andean cultures moves by community tourism and wishes to carry out its own specific circuits in the field of rural tourism. The NGOs were present in the towns of Chinchero, Huchuyqosqo and Patabamba (for the construction of hygienic services). At the national level, MINCETUR (Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism) encourages this new trend of tourism in Peru, through the implementation of a strategic plan, methodologies, promotion, organization of events and the association of those involved in the tourism sector.

PROBLEMS FOUND

The lack of means for the purchase of construction materials.
The need for constant training of foster families in some fields.
Due to the lack of information for tourists about the necessary services, complaints have been received, especially regarding the lack of hot water.
